The 2016 Auxey-Duresses Les Boutonniers has a rounded and generous, quite phenolic bouquet. Lime and red apple aromas develop with time, later a hint of pineapple. The palate is fresh on the entry with crisp acidity, but it does not quite follow through and it feels rather short towards the finish. So-so. Tasted at the Domaine Direct Tasting in London.

Not as communicative on the nose as its red counterpart shown at this Domaine Direct tasting. A bit taut and dull at the moment. Austere. (JR)
The 2016 Auxey-Duresses Les Boutonniers is a wonderful bottle of tight-knit, old-school white Burgundy that is going to reward bottle age. Offering up notes of green pear, white flowers, iodine, hazelnut and crushed chalk, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and tangy, with lovely chalky depth and long, searingly intense finish. Burgundy purists will want to seek this out.
