Note di degustazione
This vintage shows a little more heat that comes off as tar, licorice and rose potpourri. The 2012 Val d'Arno di Sopra Bòggina is a ripe red wine with evident tones of strawberry and raspberry preserves. The soaring complexity you get in cooler vintages is delivered with measured intensity here. In 2011, Bòggina was an IGT Toscana wine, but starting with this vintage it is part of the Val d'Arno di Sopra DOC appellation. The mouthfeel is robust and thickly layered.

The 2012 Boggina (Sangiovese) is one of the more restrained, finessed wines I have tasted at Petrolo. Weightless and gracious in the glass, the 2012 is built on a core of super-expressive, floral and red-toned fruit. With air, the Boggina fleshes out and takes on slightly darker shades of expression. Hints of tobacco and mint add nuance on the finish in a highly appealing, fruit-driven Sangiovese to drink now and over the next decade-plus.

Petrolo is one of Tuscany’s cult names. It is best known for Galatrona – a Merlot cuvée that is, along with Masseto, often described as the Pétrus of Tuscany.
