Note di degustazione
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is showing very well despite its youth, bursting with aromas of pear, toasted nuts, white flowers and hints of iodine. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and textural, with a creamy attack that segues into a bright, saline finish, it retains excellent balance in this riper, more powerfully styled vintage.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Combettes 1er Cru has a pretty lemon verbena, quince and yellow flower-scented bouquet that blossoms in the glass. The oak is neatly assimilated here. The palate is well balanced, with a tangy, Seville orange marmalade-tinged opening. Bitter lemon intermixes with subtle hazelnut and spicy notes, ending up quite complex and satisfyingly on the long finish. This is very promising and exceeds my expectations. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru comes from 0.80 hectares of vines up to 45 years old, located close to the woods. Unlike the other two Puligny Premier Crus, it comes from Girardin’s own vines. This has a more clinical bouquet of fine delineation and terroir expression, featuring crushed limestone, cooking apple and a light sea spray note. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and quite saline in the mouth, getting the saliva flowing. Good concentration on the finish. This is an excellent Puligny that should age with style.
