The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru, which was Céline's favorite cuvée during élevage due to the energy, does possess noticeable vim on the nose (more so than the preceding Clos des Murées.) The palate is well-balanced, quite elegant in style, and slightly creamy in texture with lemon curd, orange rind and ginger towards the prolonged finish. This is very promising.

Exposed hillside with thin chalky soils, this was saved from devastation by the widespread use of candles, with only a third of the crop lost to frost. Cask sample. Understated, quiet Chassagne premier cru which needs time to blossom. But all the components are there – purity of fruit, a raciness and concentration which augurs well for the future. Ripe yet rich, cool and refined. Fine. (AWH)
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru just misses the mineralité expressed by other cuvées on the nose - a little one-dimensional by comparison. The palate is better with fine "bite" on the entry, moderate depth, perhaps just needing a little more precision on the finish.
