Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2021-2027, Eric Guido, Vinous, Mar 2021

With a color that starts ruby at the core, reddish peach toward the middle and slightly amber around the rim, the 2001 Brunello di Montalcino opens like a cedar spice box full of cloves and allspice, with crushed black cherries and hints of sage. This is so wonderfully soft and fleshy in feel; yet it’s energized by a zesty wave of acidity, as nuances of sour citrus give way to tart berries and a twang of wild herbs. There’s a wonderful inner sweetness here that makes tasting the 2001 a total pleasure, as it tapers off lightly structured and persistent to hints of licorice and dried plums. The best part is that nothing has changed in the vineyard or with the winemaking process at Le Potazzine since 2001.

The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino is also very far along its evolutionary path. The difference is that the bouquet here shows drying mineral notes of flint and campfire ash. You also get dried fruit tones of candied fruit and fig with cured meat and leather. The wine's dark appearance includes light browning at the rims.

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2007-2016, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Dec 2006

The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino displays a very classic profile of cherries, tobacco, earthiness and minerals with medium body, excellent length and fine tannins. It is made in a delicate, understated style that favors elegance over sheer power, reflecting the aesthetics of Gorelli himself. A great effort. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2016.
