Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru from Remi Rolland has a straight-forward bouquet, well-defined and crisp although perhaps not as complex as one would expect a Corton-Charlemagne. There is just a faint note of almond and walnut coming through with aeration. The palate is crisp and taut, a fine line of acidity, quite malic with a pointed finish that needs to develop more weight. Returning to my glass, the harmony of this wine is more apparent and it seems to muster more length, yet never quite gets out of fourth gear.

Extreme restraint on the nose. Just a hint of grapefruit within that mineral framework. Then a deliciously rich lemon-cream flavour, all tight and zippy and energetic. (JH)
