Note di degustazione
The 1999 Barbaresco Riserva Montefico stands out for its energy and firm, incisive tannins. Dark red cherry, spice, tobacco and smoke are all quite expressive in the glass. Although the aromatics are starting to fade, the Montefico has been relatively well preserved by its tannic spice and overall structure. Crushed flowers, spices, leather and sweet tobacco add the final nuances of complexity. Ideally, the Montefico is best enjoyed over the next few years. I don't think the 1999 will ever attain the sense of balance of the best Monteficos made here.

A noticeable step up from the Montestefano, the Montefico delivers a multi-dimensional nose of spices, tar, eucalyptus, and cocoa and a palate packed with dense fruit. A superbly structured wine that finishes with great length and freshness. The most complete of the nine Riservas.
Good medium red. Smoky, autumnal aromas of woodsmoke and roasted currant, with a hint of raisin. Very suave on entry, then broad and vinous in the middle, with sound acidity and a continuing note of woodsmoke. Not a particularly fruity style, but very Barbaresco. Finishes with strong tannins that hit the palate quite late.
