The 2023 Batailley has a spicy, black fruit bomb of a nose, the fruit complemented by graphite, a hint of smoke, savoury herbs and grilled meat. The palate is very classically proportioned, with structured tannins built around a core of pure blackcurrant fruit. Balanced and long, the finish is full of dark berries. This is lovely and true Batailley in style. A real success this year. Aged in 57% new oak. Blend: 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot

The 2023 Batailley has really come together beautifully since I tasted it en primeur . Silky and potent, Batailley has so much to offer, specifically the way it balances power and finesse. Blackberry, gravel, crushed rocks, lavender, espresso and cloves are some of the many notes that build in the glass. Potent and ample, the 2023 has so much to offer. Batailley is a great example of what Bordeaux does best: turn out wines that remain fairly priced, in volume.

The 2023 Batailley has a well-defined bouquet with sappy blackberry and bilberry fruit, well-integrated oak, the typical classic Batailley style with a bit of panache. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well balanced, slightly powdery in texture, with ample weight on the finish. It is built in a more approachable style compared to the wines of 10 to 20 years ago, a smooth operator!

This is just so effortlessly full of appellation signature, a tiny twist of sandalwood and cedar, old school in the absolute best sense of the word, full of crayon and black tea, squid ink, cassis and mint fragrant expansion. 57% new oak for ageing. Harvest September 12 through to October 5, Axel Marchal consultant, Philippe and Frederic Castéja owners, 45hl/h yield.
