Note di degustazione
Panzano. 100% Sangiovese. Lustrous mid ruby with bright orange tinges. Concentrated nose of earthy cherry and with a hint of dried fruit. A little singed but also plenty of concentrated, sweet-sour cherry fruit too. Perhaps a little bit too marked by dried fruit on the finish for my liking, but still plenty of energy and freshness. Il Molino di Grace's 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Margone is done in a rich, unctuous style. Super-ripe black cherry, chocolate, plum, licorice, spice, tobacco and menthol are all amped up. Readers should expect a potent, opulent Chianti Classico. I am not sure the Margone needs this much oak. Even so, all the elements are very nicely balanced.
Gran Selezione wines are distinguished by their added extract and the richer textural impact they make in the mouth, among other qualities. Tasting the 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Margone next to Il Molino di Grace's 2015 Chianti Classico gives you a perfect view onto the stylistic distances between the two wines. This expression is redolent of dark fruit, baking spice and cinnamon stick. The mouthfeel here is brighter and more buoyant than expected, thanks to that crisp acidity (developed in this cooler vintage) tucked neatly at the back.
