Altare's 2001 Langhe Arborina boasts considerable depth and power. There is plenty of richness in the glass, yet the 2001 doesn't have the finesse of the best vintages. In particular, the aromatics aren't as precise as they could be.

The 2001 Arborina, very floral on the nose with penetrating aromas of smoke, roses, and a light touch of vanilla, is very rich and substantial, broad and authoritative but very plushy and supple, a wine with superlative aging prospects, a minimum of fifteen years. (nebbiolo) Deep red. Exotic cherry liqueur on the nose, with subtle flowers and spices. Lush, mellow and rich; a step beyond the Larigi and La Villa in thickness and breadth on the palate. Finishes with noble, fine-grained tannins and superb sappy persistence. Utterly seamless nebbiolo.
