From a vineyard at 290 m above sea level with a west-north-west exposure. Total skin maceration time of 30 days and aged in Slavonian oak casks of 15 and 20 hl for 30 months, followed by at least eight months in bottle. Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Attractive, full, perfumed nose of cherry and strawberry fruit with a peppery tingle and what looks like a hint of oak. Generous ripe red and cherry fruit with a shot of acidity and chewy tannins. Lots of juice and grip on the finish. (WS)

The 2016 Brunello has savory aromatics of tobacco, sage, cherry pit and forest floor. The palate has supple tannin, with licorice, dried black raspberry, tomato leaf and saline minerality. This will be prime for somewhat early drinking over the next 10 or more years. 2021-2031
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino mixes sour cherry with plums, cloves, spiced orange peels and sage in a display that really pulls you close to the glass. It’s cool-toned and silky, with energizing acidity and salty minerals that frame its tart wild berry fruits. There’s beautiful balance here, as it swings from savory to sweet, taking on a purple-tinged persona, as notes of licorice and violet florals linger on the longer and structured finish. This is really very nice and geared to a long and even evolution in collectors’ cellars.
