Note di degustazione
Sangiovese planted in 1951. Fermented in concrete tank and aged for up to 18 months in tonneaux of which 50% were new. C stands for 'classic'. Savoury iodine cherry fruit on the nose with touches of spicy and savoury rather than sweet oak. Hints of Moroccan leather and minerally notes. Sappy red-fruit palate with a cool edge and just medium-bodied feel. Gritty tannins adding depth. (WS)

The 2016 Val d'Arno di Sopra Bòggina C is a pure expression of Sangiovese from vines planted in 1952. Give the wine a little time to open in the glass; once it does, it offers a beautiful display of forest fruit, spice, leather and earthy tones. Unlike the Bòggina A that is aged in amphorae, the Bòggina C is fermented in concrete vats using ambient yeasts. It sees extended maceration times and is aged in French 40-hectoliter casks and tonneaux. Some 11,000 bottles were made. This single-vineyard expression of Sangiovese reveals impeccable balance and elegance.
The 2016 Bòggina C, 100% Sangiovese vinified in cement and aged in oak, is a total knock-out. Readers will find a wine endowed with fabulous richness and depth. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice and espresso all flesh out in a generous, deeply expressive wine that is ample and nuanced at the same time.
