The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Caprili presents cherries in liqueur, herbs, baking spices and sweet toasted oak with excellent clarity and precision Made in a vibrant, super-ripe style, it offers good concentration although the hard, unpolished tannins clip the finish and ultimately convey an impression of limited finesse.

Not direct, but a quite intriguing nose – suggests that it will improve on acquaintance. There is a nice balance of acidity and fruit. Still quite a bit of tannin. There is a very chewy end, but it is promising in a classic style. (JR)
