(25% new oak): Musky, slightly reduced scents of lime blossom, lemon peel and quinine. Juicy on entry, then fat and pliant in the middle palate, showing a Meursault-like expressiveness to its flavors of lemon, nectarine, peach, talc and nutmeg. This fruit came in with plenty of tartaric acidity and its finished pH is a low 3.11, according to Riffault. Finishes quite dry but ripe and easygoing.

The 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Referts has a similar bouquet to the 2014 Hameau de Blagny, but with slightly more greener fruit, kiwi and Granny Smith apples. The palate is vibrant on the entry. There is good weight here, harmonious and focused, gaining weight on the citrus-driven finish with hints of nectarine and pear on the aftertaste. This fans out nicely after a modest beginning and I suspect it will reside at the top of my estimate once in bottle.

(25% new oak; these very old, degenerating vineyard yielded just 38 hectoliters per hectare in 2014): Full medium yellow. Musky yellow fruits, nut oil and spices on the nose, along with a leesy nuance. Silky, fat and spicy, showing a lovely restrained sweetness and classic balance. Very rich, long and dry on the aftertaste.
