2012 Sapaio Volpolo

This wine has fleshed out nicely since I first tasted it upon its commercial release. From a hot and dry vintage, the 2012 Bolgheri Rosso Volpolo shows a hair less complexity than the others, with a more one-dimensional approach that is certainly due to the lower acidity in the grapes of this vintage. This wine shows some warmth in the bouquet with blackberry confit and prune. Yet that heat is contained within good measure.
