2005 Trio Infernal No. 2/3

The 2005 2/3 Trio Infernal is sourced from 80- to 110-year-old vines in Torroja del Priorat. It spent 18 months in new and used oak, which seems clear on the aromatic profile. It has a tight blackberry, dark chocolate and lavender-scented nose with a touch of volatility that lends aromatic lift. The palate is full-bodied with layers of toasty black fruit. It is very assertive and powerful but a little dry and missing some freshness on the finish. Drink now-2017. I prefer the more vivacious Riu Trio to the 2/3. Importer: Petit Pois Corps, NJ; tel.
