2019 Olivier Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Blagny Sous Le Dos d'Âne

The 2019 Meursault-Blagny Sous La Dos d'Ane 1er Cru sports a heavy reduction on the nose to the point that it renders the aromatics rather generic and occludes any terroir expression. It's not unattractive, but it doesn't distinguish itself from others. The palate is well balanced with a slightly candied opening. Blood orange, quince and stem ginger notes lead to a satisfyingly linear and persistent finish. Quite spicy on the aftertaste, this Meursault should develop nicely in bottle and hopefully shed some of that reduction on the nose. It's tricky to ascertain the direction this will go in…time will tell. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
