This wine was tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux has a more reticent bouquet than Brocard and Pinson’s offerings from the vineyard, though it is detailed and mineral-driven, perhaps the most complex of the flight. The palate is fresh and crisp with a fine line of acidity that cuts through the intense fruit. This is nicely weighted in the mouth, and very long with a sustained seam of lemongrass on the aftertaste. This is an excellent Chablis Butteaux from Louis Michel.

Inviting aromas of lemon, white flowers, quinine and oyster shell. Showing the classic cool side of Chablis, with very good lift and intensity to the white peach and floral flavors. Finishes with firm acid grip. This has turned out well.
Pale yellow. High-pitched aromas of minerals and menthol. Rather withdrawn today, with citrus and steely flavors showing less depth than the Forets. Finishes firm and tight, with a touch of bitterness.
