Aromas of buttered citrus fruit, iodine, crisp yellow apples and dried white flowers introduce the 2006 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, a full-bodied, deep and multidimensional wine with ripe but lively acids, chalky structuring extract and a concentrated core of fruit. This can be quite a ripe, exotic vintage in Chablis, but Guffens has produced a serious, muscular wine.

The 2006 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a light, slightly grassy bouquet that does not really deliver the mineralité or concentration of this vineyard. The palate is better, with a fine bead of acidity, quite sharp and citric for a 2006 or a Les Clos, and a touch of oyster shell and flint on the finish. Not bad.
Half concrete and half oak. Refined, steely nose. Lime marmalade. Pretty rich for a Chablis? In fact amazing for a Chablis! So reverberant. Chewy on the end. Very dramatic indeed. Pungent and good tension as well as richness. (JR)
Knockout nose combines piquant citrus peel, minerals and white flowers. Enters the mouth with terrific lift, then shows a lovely silky texture allied to terrific grip and inner-mouth floral perfume. Mounts impressively on the back half, finishing with superb palate-dusting persistence and an almost tannic impression. Very firmly structured, sappy Chablis that's much more about its great grand cru site than simply about chardonnay.
