Concentrated, and made in an opulent, Pomerol-like style is the 1997 Vigna Al Cavaliere. About 1,150 cases were produced of the 100% Sangiovese. A dark ruby color is accompanied by a fragrant bouquet of black fruits, smoke, toasty oak, and spice box. The wine is fleshy, luscious, low in acidity, and fat. With tremendous reserves of fruit, and a full-bodied, voluptuous texture, this plump, succulent 1997 lingers on the palate for more than 30 seconds. Drink it over the next 7-10 years. Deep ruby-red. Ripe aromas of black plum, currant, black cherry, mocha and cocoa powder. Fat, full and deep, with lush, sweet fruit. Long finish features slightly dry tannins and hints of leather and smoke. Not quite the complexity for outstanding, but pliant and generous.
Deep ruby. Ample aromas of plum, mocha, and vanilla. Large-scaled but elegant on the palate, with an excellent balance of plum and redcurrant fruit, oak and alcohol. Long, minerally finish demonstrates power and freshness. Easily one of the best all-sangiovese wines ever produced on the coast, from a young small grower with the talent to match his ambition.
