The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Gli Angeli from La Gerla is unquestionably one of the finest 2001 Brunello Riservas I tasted. It captures the essence of the vintage in its ripe fruit and finessed, sweet tannins. Notes of dark cherries, raspberries, crushed flowers, minerals and cinnamon all flow from this weighty, creamy-textured Brunello. Its superb balance and harmony make it extremely pleasurable today, but it also appears to have the stuffing to age for another 10-15 years. This is superb effort from La Gerla is not to be missed.
