The Banfi winemaking team has done a terrific job with the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio alle Mura. This is a thickly extracted and saturated wine with a dark personality that oozes forth with black fruit intensity, spice, leather and tar. There is volume and weight here, and both are delivered with an effortless sense of precision and power. This wine is built to last, and I would recommend more years of cellar aging before popping the cork.
Deep ruby with orange tinges. Closed but with a hint of oak. Confident, richly fruity palate with a fine oak note. Vibrant acidity and lots of substance and richly tannic. True Riserva quality and potential. (WS)
