Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2016-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Perrières from Henri Boillot has a light, walnut and granite scented nose that needs more intensity but is nicely defined. The palate is slightly bitter on the entry, though the acidity is nicely judged. It never quite builds as you were hoping after the aromatics, does not quite achieve the delineation and nervosité to match the power. It actually gains elegance in the glass and is a delightful Puligny, albeit one that needs more personality to develop.

The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières is surprisingly rich, viscous and oily. Boillot adds there was very little juice in the grapes. Honey, tangerine and sweet spices are some of the many notes that blossom in an unusually rich, resonant Perrières. The low yields of the vintage are very much felt in the wine's overall texture.

The expressive nose displays elegant and layered notes of pear, green apple and acacia blossom. I very much like the sense of underlying tension on the mineral-driven and beautifully delineated flavors that possess a refreshing saline character on the focused and impeccably well-balanced finale. Lovely juice. Tasted: Jun 15, 2014. Drink: 2018+
