Tasted blind at the Burgfest annual tasting, Louis Michel's 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre has a light, slightly minty bouquet that is missing the intensity and detail of Raveneau's Montée de Tonnerre tasted immediately before. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry with touches of dried pineapple and bruised apple, gently fanning out toward the finish, not quite delivering the precision of the best examples from this premier cru vineyard. Aeration does not seem to benefit this Chablis and it loses some of its initial energy.

Not that expressive on the nose but with good build on the palate. Chewy and chalky and set for the long term. (JR)
More intense on the palate than the Vaillons, a little more spicy too, but still with that woody/cedary character. A bit dilute on the palate. (JH)
