Note di degustazione
With grapes from Panzano in Chianti, the 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva is especially fruity and bright. Panzano sometimes offers a sweet spot of ripe cherry and you definitely sense that in the bouquet here. The nose is redolent of bold berry sensations with dried blackberry and red currant. Spice, leather and savory tobacco round off the finish. With 90% Sangiovese, 7% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, this Chianti Classico Riserva offers a more prominent taste of international grapes. The wine is aged in French and Hungarian wood for two years. Some 8,900 bottles were produced.

The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva hits the palate with serious depth and intensity. Black cherry, smoke, graphite, plum, licorice and menthol are fused together in a ripe, powerful Chianti Classico built on pure power. Virile and imposing, the 2012 has more than enough depth to drink well for at least a handful of years. This is a decidedly big, powerful style meant for the dinner table. The formidable tannins could use further time to soften.
Poggibonsi. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Minty, ripe, dark fruit with plenty of oak notes. Firmly oaked palate. Good length even if the palate is a little singed, but the oak has added quite a lot of drying tannins to the finish. (WS)
