Fermented in 350-litre oak. Very calcareous and pebbly. Bottom of the hill, on the Puligny side. Light soils. 45-year-old vines. Barrel sample. Deliciously creamy aroma with a light spice and clementine notes. But chalky too. Intense and quite open. Super-intense bright, ripe lemon, with just a hint of charry reduction on the aftertaste. Great purity of fruit that holds its head above the oak but the oak contributes to the texture and fabulous length. (JH)

Soft whispers of matchstick and smoke add a bit of breadth to the ripe white-fleshed fruit aromas that are trimmed in a deft application of wood. The delicious and nicely vibrant medium-bodied flavors possess both a finer texture as well as slightly better precision if not quite the same richness, all wrapped in a bitter lemon-suffused finish. I like the balance and generosity, and this should age effortlessly.
