This estate captures the very essence of Barolo from Verduno, that, to my palate, also shows a hint of wildness or maybe some exotic character. Winemaking at Comm. G.B. Burlotto is traditional, and for this reason, those territory-specific aromas are even more pronounced and easy to recognize. If you had to settle with one Barolo "base" (I know the producers hate this descriptor used for non-vineyard specific Barolo) for the rest of your life, the 2015 Barolo would definitely do the trick. The wine delivers intensity and grace, with pretty background detailing of spice, crushed stone and ash.

Burlotto's 2015 Barolo is absolutely gorgeous. Pliant and open-knit, the straight Barolo captures all of the natural richness of the vintage. Succulent red cherry, plum, lavender, rose petal, spice and new leather all meld together in a supple, inviting Barolo that will be impossible to resist in its youth. This is such a beautiful and alluring wine. The base of the Burlotto Barolo is built on Breri, which is adjacent to Monvigliero, plus the portions of Rocche dell' Olmo and Neirane that don't make it into the Acclivi. This is a positively stellar wine. Don't miss it. (Drink between 2023-2040) (AG)

Very aromatic with sliced strawberries and cherries and hints of tangerines on the nose. Full body. Rich and juicy and a flavorful finish. Drink from 2022.

Verduno. Blend of all their holdings in Verduno, except Monvigliero, but mostly from the Breri vineyard next to it. ‘Stylistically this is a bit like Monvigliero, if perhaps a little less complex, but perfect to get an impression of what Monvigliero is about.’ Just mid ruby. Open-knit and beautifully perfumed raspberry and cherry nose and nothing of that exotic spice that creeps up in quite a few 2015 Barolos. Elegant, fresh raspberry fruit with chewy tannins. Fantastic balance and freshness and could be approached now, but more to come. Already over-delivers. (WS)
