The 2016 Clerc Milon has more fruit on the nose than d'Armailhac, with blackberry, raspberry and cedar, just a touch of leather coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, not the most powerful Pauillac, but well balanced with a grainy texture. A touch of cracked black pepper and tobacco towards the classically-styled finish. Old school in a good way. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

An outstanding Clerc Milon and probably one of the recent best. This shows depth, richness, juiciness, complexity and nice fluidity in the middle. Fine, svelte tannins with graphite, black currant and paprika flavors. Juicy and medium- to full-bodied with a long finish. 55% cabernet sauvignon, 29% merlot, 13% cabernet franc, 2% petit verdot and 1% carmenere. Drink or hold. From a vertical tasting at the chateau.
Great quality, showing flesh and succulence among plentiful black fruits, brambled hedgerow, salted cracker, oyster shell, pomegranate, cassis. Fresh acidities also, definitely plenty of life ahead, austere on the finish still. Intense and concentrated. Tasted at the estate recently also. Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy director. 55% new oak for ageing. Harvest September 26 to October 15.
This has taken its time to come around, as it is a muscular wine with powerful and sculpted tannic grip, but at approaching nine years old you are beginning to really appreciate the brilliance on display. Expect raspberry, cranberry, olive paste, sage, grilled rosemary and cracked pepper, with sweeter toasted caramel notes. Great stuff, director Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy, 50% new oak.
