The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has a slightly more floral, quite precise bouquet with lemon verbena, crushed stone and touches of beeswax. Nuanced and focused, the aromatics have no desire to shout loudly. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity. Taut and fresh, rather saline and poised with a floral and slightly worked finish. This changed a lot in the glass, initially mean but then exotic. What does it want to be? Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet has turned out nicely, wafting from the glass with an inviting bouquet of pear, citrus pith, toasted almonds, white flowers and wet limestone. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, it's lively and saline, with good depth at the core.
The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru comes from red clayey soils around 40cm in depth over limestone soils. The vines are around 65 years old, and they suffer more millerandage than other Premier Crus. This has an intense, concentrated bouquet with touches of white flower infusing the crushed rock/flinty aromas. It feels stoic but very well defined. The palate is well balanced, offering orange peel and marmalade notes on the entry. Wonderful depth here, and a sense of energy. This should evolve into a marvelous Champ Canet once in bottle.
