The 2000 Montrachet Grand Cru is a vintage that really impressed given that it is not renowned in Burgundy. Fairly deep in color but not worryingly so, it has a beautiful bouquet featuring hints of butterscotch and orange blossom, richer than expected but managing to retain impressive delineation, and developing more stoniness and terroir expression with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a superb bead of acidity, almost Meursault-like in style thanks to the hazelnut and walnut notes, and taut and fresh on the finish, displaying just the right amount of salinity. Superb and on point. Tasted at the Montrachet vertical in London.
