Cask sample. Floral, lovely ripeness and sweetness to the fruit. Fleshy, good acidity. Almost too much ripeness here but just about balanced by the acid and firm tannins. I suspect this will settle down with a year or two in bottle. (AWH)

Containing 60% whole cluster, the 2020 Volnay Clos des Angles 1er Cru felt a little reduced on the nose, touches of violet and peony emerging. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins, slightly lower acidity with a slightly blocky finish.

Inky dark, with abundant aromas of black plum and cherry, plus an edge of menthol, pepper and spice. The texture is dense, velvety and very concentrated, with lots of extract that draws the wine to a lingering finish. This comes from a large 1.79ha parcel at the base of the village under Fremiets, where Rossignol is the largest proprietor. In 2020 he picked at 14.5% potential alcohol and fermented 70% of the fruit as whole clusters without a cold soak, punching down only four or five times during the entire fermentation.
