Smoky, spicy, rich and round. Very flattering. (JR)
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes from Dominique Lafon has a beautiful nose with lemon thyme, lime flower, mineral scents that are just so neatly poised and delineated. The palate has exquisite balance, perfectly judged acidity, wonderful poise and sustain in the mouth. This is exactly what you would seek from a top flight Meursault Charmes that will repay long-term cellaring. Dominique just nailed this one.
(one-third new oak): Pale bright yellow. Classic aromas of lemon cream, minerals and sexy lees, along with subtle oak notes of char and coconut. Mouthfilling and ripe but bright and sharply delineated, with harmonious acidity and underlying minerality giving the wine an urgent sappy quality. Really resounds on the palate-staining finish.
