Note di degustazione
The 2014 Gattinara Vigna Valferana is an infant. Powerful, tight and austere, the 2014 is striking. Readers will have to be patient with the 2014, as it needs a lot of time to be at its best. Even so, the wine's inner sweetness, fragrance and dimension are impressive. In 2014, Valferana is a wine of pure and total sensuality.

The 2014 Gattinara Vigna Valferana is a more immediate Nebbiolo, with beautiful aromas that are a bit more broad in scope than other expressions' bouquets. You get some dark spice and a variety of herbal notes. There is a pretty sweetness, too, and a general grandeur to this profile. As beautiful as this 2014 is, Roberto Conterno is even more excited about the 2018 vintage that is coming down the line.
Penetrating aromas of wild cherry, wild berry, rose, incense and white pepper mark this red, which is silky and fluid, yet with a firm underpinning of tannins and vibrant acidity. A mineral element emerges on the long finish. 500 cases made.
West-facing at 300 meters. Dried roses and rose hips with very precise, elegant aromas that have delicacy in comparison to 2015. Some blue flowers here, too, as well as a blueberry thread. The palate has a gently muscular feel with assertive, fine, succulent tannins that hold gently firm at the finish. Long, measured and deep. Drink or hold.
