A classic second wine that shows outstanding potential, the dark ruby/purple-colored 2002 has notes of cedar wood, black currants, earth, and truffles in a medium to full-bodied, supple-textured, beautifully concentrated style that can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15 years.

First bottle: Dense crimson but awfully inexpressive on the nose. A bit raw. There’s no getting away from the uncompromising nature of this vintage. Marked acidity on the finish. It does seem overpriced… (Scored 16 Drink 2014-24 ) Second bottle: Much more interesting on the nose with some supple texture and the acidity – almost – covered by fruit. (JR)
