Punteggio 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Nov 2007

Good deep ruby. Blackberry, violet and bitter chocolate on the nose. Wonderfully sweet, sappy and full, with superb acidity giving life to this very rich, chocolatey wine. Sexy oak complements the wine's fruit. The quality of this wine is on the upswing, as most of Rivetti's best Asti barbera now goes into this bottling. Previously the old-vines juice went into a Superiore, but now Rivetti does a separate Superiore bottling entirely from his new vineyard, Bionzo.

Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2013, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2007

Rivetti's 2005 Barbera d'Asti Ca' di Pian is a plump, juicy wine with sweet dark fruit, tar and licorice flavors although there is a slightly green quality that lurks underneath. this tasty, accessible Barbera is sure to provide much pleasure over the next few years even if it isn't as engaging as the best vintages.

Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2007-2010, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Oct 2007

Rivetti's 2005 Barbera d-Asti Ca- di Pian is a plump, juicy wine with sweet dark fruit, tar and licorice flavors although there is a slightly green quality that lurks underneath. This tasty, accessible Barbera is sure to provide much pleasure over the next few years even if it isn't as engaging as the best vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2010. This is a very strong set of releases from La Spinetta and proprietor Giorgio Rivetti. The 2004 Barbarescos are easily the best of his career. The wines still see 100% new French oak, but toast levels have been reduced and the Barbarescos now spend 12 months in oak rather than the 18 months they saw in previous vintages. Both changes have had a remarkably positive effect in allowing more site-specific character and Nebbiolo fruit to come through. The 2003 Barolo Campè shows that Rivetti is making important strides with this wine as well. Only the 2005 Barberas are disappointing, but that is not entirely surprising given the uneven growing season. In the past La Spinetta was an estate that relied just as much on style as substance. The 2004 Barbarescos, and especially the Starderi, are the first wines that truly live up to the glamorous image that Giorgio Rivetti has masterfully succeeded in creating.
