Note di degustazione
The 1998 Brunello di Montalcino Altero, is sustained in color and ruby in tonality. The ripe and powerful nose adds underbrush and herbs to the well focused red fruit aromas and the palate is notably more concentrated, complex, and spicy. Drink: 2005-2012. This wine is superior to the 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, not reviewed, rather hard and tough, with some reduction on the nose. Poggio Antico is in the southwestern part of the zone, but rather high, and the style is rather elegant for this part of Montalcino Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900

Red-ruby. Expressive nose combines red berry liqueur, musky gunflint, Valrhona chocolate, mocha and smoky oak. Dense, sappy and juicy, with subtly complex hints of cherry, smoke, flowers and gunflint. Conveys a strong impression of extract and soil character. Finishes with nicely buffered, ripe tannins and excellent length. Like the basic bottling, this promises a decade or more of development in bottle and may ultimately merit an outstanding rating.
