The 2019 La Magdalena is a 60/40 split of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, all from Oakville (near Dalla Valle) that was brought up in 50% new barrels. It's another elegant, complex, medium to full-bodied effort from Erickson that has a deep purple hue, loads of floral, incense, tobacco, and spicy nuances, fine tannins, and a great core of red and black fruits. It picks up some classic Oakville iron and darker nuances with air and is perfect for enjoying over the coming 15 years.

Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2025-2039, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2022

The 2019 La Magdalena is a Cabernet Franc-based blend from Oakville Ranch. It possesses tremendous mid-palate weight and density. Tasting it next to the Cerro Sur is so fascinating, as both wines are Franc-based and yet completely different. Red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and lavender build into the potent, sumptuous finish.

The 2019 La Magdalena is so impressive. Usually a tannic wine, the 2019 has more than enough richness and intensity to play off its huge, imposing structure. I can't wait to see how the 2019 develops over the next year. Today, all of its energy is focused inward. Time in the glass brings out a whole range of floral and savory accents, but it is clearly very early days here.
