The Pietroso 2020 Brunello di Montalcino opens with ripe fruit tones followed by a note of campfire ash that lends a smoky, slightly tarry nuance to the bouquet. The wine takes a moment to come into focus and never fully sheds its savory edge, which adds weight. In this warm vintage, the palate shows generous volume and richness shaped by Pietroso’s long-established vineyards near the historic walls of Montalcino. While depth and length are more modest, the tannins are accessible and polymerized with a closing impression of sweet fruit, making this an upfront and immediate expression.

The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino pours a deep ruby/magenta color. It reveals notes of licorice, Amarena cherries, toasted sage, and forest earth. Full-bodied, with great purity and ripe tannins, it has wonderful concentration and extract, with a long finish and delicate saltines to accent and frame the wine. It has wonderful length and starts to show lots of polished leather on the finish. Drink over the coming 15 years.
Just mid ruby. Subtle vanilla hints over light cherry notes with hints of tobacco leaf. Fresh and juicy light strawberry and cherry fruit with powdery tannins underneath. Elegant rather than powerful. Ready now. (WS)
Very pretty cherry and orange-peel aromas with fresh flowers, following through to a medium body with lovely depth of fruit and fine tannins that run long and true. Crisp at the end. New estate to watch. Drink in three or four years, but something already very enticing about it. Try after 2027.
