The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru feels standoffish on the nose, lacking the vitality and depth of its peers. It's strict with a little more stoniness. It never really develops in the glass. The palate is fresh and taut, demonstrating more complexity and personality than the aromatics. It has a smooth texture and a fine bead of acidity, though it doesn't capture the senses like the best Corton-Charlemagne in this vintage. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a light, fresh bouquet with pressed white flowers, white linen and light peachy aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, quite taut for a Corton-Charlemagne, certainly one of the better Bichot whites with more mineralité on the finish. This should age well. Closure: Diam
TA (sulphuric) 3.85 g/l, TA (tartaric) 5.89 g/l, pH 3.25. 15 months' ageing, 30% new oak. Cask sample. This could almost be mistaken for the Chablis Grand Cru. Restrained nose. Pebbly/mineral palate. Lime zest adds complexity to the light peach/green-apple fruit. Stony finish with depth and length. Will age very well. (AWH)

Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
