Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2025

A saturated youthful ruby color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino needs some air on opening at this early stage before revealing notes of chili flake, preserved cherries, menthol, leather, and toasted cedar. It's lush and full through the palate, with plush tannins, ripe acidity that lifts the wine off the palate, and a good finish. It's a more polished wine but has a good deal of refinement in this vintage. Drink 2025-2035.

The San Polo 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is a ripe and toasted expression that stands on a twofold base of black fruit and oak spice. Brunello is known for its power and intensity. This estate manages one of the more full-bodied interpretations. But the wine is not all bulk by any means. The 2020 vintage is a little leaner on the palate and shorter too, with bright acidity and an accessible personality. In comparison, the 2019 vintage felt too rich. This Brunello gives a lot all at once and then shifts into a lower gear for the long haul. Production is 30,000 bottles.

Mid ruby with orange tinges. Cherry with minty hints and already a little evolved. Elegant palate of juicy cherry that is light of touch. Chewy tannins, too. Easy to like if a little lightweight. (WS)

Crushed raspberries, zests of tangerine, mint leaves and a hint of flint stone come together as the 2020 Brunello di Montalcino opens in the glass. Racy and sleek, it swirls across the palate with rose-tinged red berry fruits and mineral tones. The finish features spicy and edgy tannins that frame the experience nicely.
