Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2036-2063, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2026

The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru is a somber wine. In so many vintages, the Echézeaux is quite approachable in its youth. The 2023, on the other hand, is going to need a number of years to come into its own. I imagine it will always be an especially virile, potent Burgundy. Gravel, sage, graphite and plum notes add to that impression. Swaths of tannin wrap it all up in style.

Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2029-2040, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Feb 2026

Vines average 35 years old. Harvested 15–17 September, 38.4 hl/ha. Bottled 27 February 2025 (20,330 bottles). Mid crimson. A lifted sweetness even though the wine is clearly deep in dark fruit. Almost rocky (by which I mean minerally but a minerality that is somehow darker than crushed stones), slightly peppery. As it opens, a glorious sense of the lighter minerality of crushed stones, almost dusty, suggesting many layers of stones and cherries. Tannins are paper-fine, incredibly elegant. The sober intensity on the palate is classic Échezeaux for me, dry, savoury and so persistent. The dry tannins make this fresh and extremely refined. Dry and very finely stemmy on the finish. (JH)

The 2023 Échézeaux Grand Cru was picked at 38.4 hl/ha from September 15 to 17, this yield also a little down from 2022. Now this is intriguing on the nose, the whole bunch more prominent compared to the Corton: hints of tobacco, black olive and that background cumin touch. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip, quite edgy on the entry, slightly chalky with its spiciness accentuated since I tasted this in barrel. It's linear in style, perhaps conservative vis-à-vis the previous vintage, but I admire that this has not compromised an edginess that keeps your senses on their toes. 20,330 bottles produced.
