Just like the La Corte, this vintage of Cignale received a much lower score when tasted upon release. The 2007 Cignale is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that has aged softly to produce a wine that is inherently silky and elegant today. This was a robust vintage and vintners tended to embrace a more oak-forward style back in those days. Over time, this wine has softened and evolved to bring its best qualities forward. The bouquet shows rich concentration with dried cherry, leather and tobacco. The tannins have become silky and polished.

The 2007 Cignale (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) shows the richness of the year in its large-scaled, voluminous personality. Layers of fruit blossom in every direction as the wine opens up in the glass. Even with all the lush fruit, there is plenty of tannic heft to back things up. I am surprised how tannic the 2007 is considering the vintage. As time passes, the oak totally overwhelms the fruit. All three bottles I tasted of this wine were disappointing.
The 2007 Cignale explodes from the glass with dark fruit, mocha, espresso, crushed rocks and spices. The 2007 is a beautiful, deep Cignale endowed with considerable richness, depth and sheer personality. The wine is approachable today, but it could really use another few years to find its center.
