Light ruby. A hint of leaf mulch but mostly tangy, spicy, zesty fruit. Complex and fresh. Elegant but still with a fine but definite grip. Needs food or another year in bottle. (JH)

A powerful, explosive wine, the 2012 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano hits the palate with serious depth and intensity. The dark, brooding side of Sangiovese comes through in this virile, imposing Vino Nobile. Cedar, tobacco, smoke, licorice and menthol wrap around a core of dense fruit on the powerful finish. The 2012 could use another year to settle down, but it is impressive, even today.
Sweet, ripe red fruit. Red cherries and tinned strawberries. Tannins are tight and compact, dry, paper fine. Definitely needs food and time. (JH)
Cask sample. Impenetrable dark ruby. Very, very backward and locked on the nose with a hint of rubber. Brooding and tightly packed sweet strawberry fruit palate and rich in tannins. It is just a little sweet for the moment, but the finish shows depth and complexity. Wait for another year. (WS)
