Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2019-2027, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

Bright medium red. Mocha, redcurrant and menthol on the rather subdued nose. Shows considerably more energy in the mouth, offering tactile, moderately concentrated flavors of raspberry and cherry lifted by flowers and herbs. Nicely savory wine with a firm dusting of tannins. Perhaps a bit slight for this cuvée from Bouchard but should offer relatively early appeal.

(25 hectoliters per hectare; 20% vendange entier ; began in 40% new oak): Bright dark red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice and spicy oak are lifted by a note of fruity peppercorn. Sappy, savory and concentrated, with distinctly dry flavors of spices, minerals, licorice and pepper. This backward, saline wine finishes with serious tannins for aging. Prost will not bottle this wine until at least March.

The 2013 Pommard 1er Cru les Rugiens has quite a lively, vivacious bouquet compared to the Volnay Caillerets at the moment: nicely defined with good minerality. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, succulent tannins, plenty of cranberry and blackberry fruit with a rustic, spicy, chewy finish that lacks a little persistence. Otherwise this will be fine once it is in bottle.
