Saddle leather and shavings of cedar give way to nuances of dried cherries and strawberries as the 2007 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Bossona, a varietal Sangiovese, blossoms in the glass. Its color is amazingly deep and vibrant with ruby shades and only the slightest degradation to orange around the rim. This impresses with its fleshy and enveloping textures, offset by an intense wave of tart red fruits laced with spicy citrus. There’s only a hint of mineral underbrush here that might reveal this wine's fourteen years of age, as it finishes with remarkably balance. This is such a pleasure to taste today, and it has years of further evolution in store for us to enjoy.

This wine is still not released. Very dark ruby with broad orange tinge. Looks perhaps older than its actual age. Dusty, spicy oak at first with underlying sweet fruit. Cherry liqueur. Generously fruity but in spite of its alcoholic volume not hot at all. Oak tannins seem a tad drying but will integrate. A good mouthful of fruit. (WS)

The 2007 Bossona had just been bottled at the time of my tastings; it will be interesting to see how the wine develops in the coming months. It is one of the most refined wines I have ever tasted from Dei. The 2007 Bossona will be released in 2012.
