Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2025-2035, Neal Martin, Jun 2025

The 2023 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru has a fresh, vibrant and "cool" bouquet with petrichor and apple blossom aromas. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. This is elegant in style with subtle peach skin notes that do not impede the terroir expression on the finish. The 2023 is very fine. Tasted blind at the BIVB offices in Chablis.

Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2027-2035, Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Jan 2025

Certified organic. Vineyard planted in 1963 by Amandine Marchive's grandfather. Fermented in barrel using their proprietary yeast made from their own vineyard. Full natural malo. The wine spends winter on full lees (30% in barrel with a bit more new oak than the Vau de Vey, 70% in stainless steel) and then the two portions are blended in spring and the wine spends a few more months on fine lees in stainless steel with a bit of bâtonnage. Marchive says that her Montmains is always better the day after it was opened. A touch tauter; the first real show of steel in these Malandes 2023s. The finest thrill of spice, white pepper, perhaps. A whisper of dried chamomile flowers. Dried mint. Silken acidity. Like her other Chablis, there is a sense of fluidity, as if there is an underground stream running through the wine. Moves beautifully. (TC)
