The 2023 Beaune 1er Cru Les Marconnets is pretty and perfumed, delivering aromas of blackberries, licorice and violets followed by a medium-bodied, lively and fine-boned palate, concluding with sneaky persistence on the finish.

The 2023 Beaune Les Marconnets 1er Cru comes from more marl-like soils that tends to be picked a little later. This has a pretty, well-defined bouquet with raspberry and cranberry fruit and a touch of cold limestone. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins and a keen line of acidity. It is a little Pommard-like in terms of structure, with more black fruit toward the finish. Very fine.
The Bouchard holding of Beaune Marconnets is all on the slope, a cooler patch on brown clay. Ripe, plump, floral, exuberant cherries. Crunchy behind, this should become an exciting wine. Fine-grained tannins at the finish.
