Punteggio 89/100 · David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, Jun 2010

Stones and fruit pits lend the Pousse d’Or 2007 Corton Bressandes a rather austere undertone even though it is possessed of admirable fresh plum, along with beef marrow and cardamom. The tannins here are not at all coarse, but they are quite evident, and one could reasonably place a bet that this will respond well to extended cellaring, but I would prefer to sin on the side of earlier and more certain pleasure. Patrick Landanger’s recent vintages seem to reflect increasing confidence (not to mention consistency), displaying a sense of restraint while combining richness and transparency to detail. Between the threat of rot and of roasting, he observes, the 2007s required more rigorous sorting than did the fruit from 2008, with a correspondingly lower crop, but Landanger and his crew did an outstanding job in the face of 2007 adversities as well as in 2008. Medium red. Reticent, subtle nose hints at smoky red fruits, licorice and leather. Densely packed and sweet but a bit youthfully tight, with a cool minerality currently dominating underlying fruit and soil tones. Not at all a big style of 2007, and not yet expressing itself.

Bright, full red. The nose initially showed liqueur-like dark raspberry and cherry but quickly shut down in the glass. Sweet, lush and fruit-driven, but with a medicinal reserve and a pronounced rocky character giving this a cooler aspect and less early appeal than the Volnays. Spreads out nicely on the back end, but this is rather brooding today, with dusty tannins.
