FINE+RARE, Nov 2024

Coming from a terroir neighbouring En Pimont (another of Au Pied du Mont Chauve’s sites), this east-facing vineyard is opposite En Remilly, on the other side of the combe. At 250 metres’ altitude, the site always retains lovely freshness. The wine spent a year in foudre (a third) and 350-litre barrels (the remainder), before a final six months in tank. The nose is powerful, with ripe white fruit and zesty lemon peel – the wine balanced and clean. The palate is electric – with a vibrant spine of acidity which is even more surprising when a second kick of white fruit and orchid arrives on the mid-palate, driving towards a fine and efficient finish. This Saint-Aubin Premier Cru has no cause for shyness compared to its Chassagne Montrachet peers. A beautifully made wine that is always great value at this address, this will offer plenty of enjoyment right out of the gate and up to 15 years.

Lemon rind, peach tart, flint and digestive biscuits on the nose, followed by a creamy, flinty and subtly toasty palate that’s full-bodied with good balance. Drink now.

Au Pied du Mont Chauve is one of the Picard family's labels. The estate produces brilliant-value Burgundy and is one of few producers able to hold back wine for later release.
