2007 Barolo Vigna Rionda

The Tommaso Canale 2007 Barolo Vigna Rionda reveals lovely inner perfume and a sensual personality. Rose petals, licorice, tar, sweet cherries and spices are some of the nuances that emerge from the glass. The tannins are firm yet well integrated. This is a decidedly mid-weight, gracious style for the year. It will be interesting to see how the wine develops over the coming years, but it is unrealistic to place too high an expectation on a wine that was frankly made with pretty rustic means, in both the vineyard and cellar.
